NAVY FILTERS

FILTERS FOR SUBMARINES

Due to the space constraints on board of submarines we have customised the housing so the connections fit exactly to the space required. Sizes, filtration areas, position, amount and angles can be chosen by the customer in a way that the filter fit exactly. Our shock proven submarine filter can be optionally equipped with cathodic protection system.

VALVES

SAB valves are designed for minimum noise and in a cartridge insert format for ease of maintenance and product update/change without the removal of the housing from the on-board system. Our housings can be supplied with end connections to suit the end-user requirement. The standard material used for our valves is Nickel Aluminium Bronze, other materials such as Stainless Steel, Super Duplex Steel, Monel are available on request.

HULL VALVES

All SAB hull valves utilise the cartridge valve design, they can be operated manually or with electrical or hydraulic actuators. They work on the “Kingston” principle to include a non-return function in case of breakage of the valves internals. The unique design of the SAB double hull valves gives a failsafe solution integrating two shut off valves in one housing. All SAB hull valves can be equipped with Stop, Non-Return, Screw down Non-Return or Open-Close-Non-Return valve inserts, electronic stroke indicators, locking devices and control-switches for remote or local operation and can be actuated manually, electrically and hydraulically.

SHUT-OFF VALVES

SAB offers Shut-Off Valves in different designs. Our fully pressure equalized valves meet the highest ergonomic requirements. Our Shut-Off Valves can be equipped with different actuators and accessories.

HIGH PRESSURE FILTER

SAB filters protect all downstream equipment against all kind of solid contamination down to filter fineness of 10 micron. The casing can be equipped with a drainage screw/ venting screw. SAB produces a standard range of single cartridge filters but have developed a bi-directional model which filters the flow in two directions.

SAFETY RELIEF VALVES

SAB safety valves are type tested and CE certified to PED2014/68/EU. They are built as proportional or fast acting valves. The SAB supply is full factory inspected and preset to the system requirement, with 3rd party inspection if customer requests. SAB works together with all certified bodies and 3rd parties who include the TUV, GL, and LR to ensure they fulfill the customer’s requirements.

SPRING LOADED PRESSURE REDUCER

The spring loaded pressure reducer is used for single-stage pressure reduction of compressed air and other neutral gases. The outlet can be adjusted by changing the tension of the spring. Also available with safety relief valve in the same casing.

PRESSURE REDUCERS

Pressure reducers automatically control the flow of HP gases at a predetermined pressure. SAB supplies a wide range of spring and dome loaded pressure reducers handling inlet pressures up to 400 bar and can reduce it down to 1 bar outlet pressure covering a flow range up to 150.000 Nm³/h. The flow can be proven on our own test benches. All SAB pressure reducers are equipped with pressure equalized cones with high performance platic seats.

SEA WATER VALVES FOR SURFACE SHIPS

SAB`s seawater valves program covers the whole range required for surface ships. It includes globe valves, butterfly valves (also available as double excentric valves), sight classes and filters for seawater applications up to DN300 and PN16 according to VG-, BS – standards. We are a member of the German standardization board for navy valves, a committee of experts which ensures the compliance of these valves with navy requirements. All valves are available with shock proved electrical, hydraulic or pneumatic actuators for remote control. Globe valves and butterfly valves according to the Naval Engineering Standard (NES) and according to DIN are also in our scope of supply.

VALVES

SAB offers the full range of Globe Valves required for a navy ship. This includes all the valves acc. to VG85033, VG85034 and extra light duty type DIN86254 Our Globe Valves can be equipped with different actuators and accessories.

PISTON VALVES

Pressure balanced high performance valves are required to ensure that the crew can operate the submarine from the surface operation to max. diving depth operations even in critical and hectically situations.
Our high pressure submarines valves comes with a piston made of high performance synthetic material which is fully corrosion resistant. As a highlight, our soft seat rings can be exchanged without replacement the piston. In addition, the metal seat from the valve body can be replaced easily., pneumatic or electrical actuators with manual override. All valves are shock approved and meet all requirements for submarine valves.

SEA WATER VALVES FOR SUBMARINES

SAB produces and develop submarine approved valves for seawater use up to DN200 and PN50. They can be actuated manually or by shock approved hydraulic, pneumatic or electrical actuators with manual override. All valves are shock approved and meet all requirements for submarine valves.

FLOW REGULATION VALVES

Flow rate control valve for automatically controlling a constant flow rate with varying inlet pressures.

MANIFOLDS

SAB’s manifolds are 100% custom made according to the specifications. They can be equipped with any SAB standard or custom made cartridge valve and actuated manually, hydraulically, pneumatically or electronically to suit the functions needed. Monogas and/or gas mixtures can be filled with the multifunction valve (MFV).

SEGMENT DISTRIBUTORS

SAB segment distributors are used for distributing compressed air into several pipelines. They’re advantage is the lower width and weight, their disavantage the cannections points in between the segments. They can be equipped with any SAB cartridge valve and actuated manually, hydraulically, pneumatically or electronically to suit the functions needed. The distributors are assembled ready to connect.

SYSTEMS

After many years of cooperation with navy shipyards and with a deep knowledge of ship’s systems SAB has begun decades ago to develop complete systems for navy ships. Based on the customer’s requirements we develop, build, test and service air control panels, emergency de-ballasting systems, built-in breathing systems, diesel start and turbine start systems.

AIR CONTROL PANEL

Fuelling at sea requires a finely matched system to compensate for the wave movements. A constant tension of the connection lines is ensured with special equalisation equipment which is regulated using the air control panel.

TURBINE START SYSTEM

The SAB turbine start reducing station was designed for the LM 2500 gas turbine but can be adapted to enable the start for alternative turbine suppliers.
The two stage design of SAB’s turbine start reducing station provides a very accurate outlet pressure even on highly unsteady inlet pressures and flow rates. The Nickel Aluminium Bronze reducing station is equipped with SAB standard cartridge valves in a monoblock housing. They are designed for mass flows up to 2 kg/s at an outlet pressure of 3,5 bar.
Innovative design provides high flow to outlet allowing multi start possibilities, without the requirement for higher than required initial outlet pressure. This is achieved by the addition of a regulation mechanism that increases outlet area of the second stage at high flows. The system is totally integral to the manifold block without need of any additional mechanism.

TURBINE AND DIESEL START SYSTEMS

Gas turbines are used on larger marine vessels in addition to diesel engines to achieve higher speeds. The turbines are started by large volumes of compressed air at low pressure. Even though diesel engines need lower flows to start they have the same high requirements relative to pressure and flow.

BUILT IN BREATHING SYSTEMS

In case of fire, contaminated air on board of the submarine or flooding of the submarine an integrated Built in Breathing System will be used by the crew in order to breathe fresh air or breathing gas (Nitrox). The system consists mainly of cylinders which store the breathing air / gas, a pressure reducing station (BIBS) to reduce the HP air/gas to a pressure suitable for the breathing masks and couplings to connect the masks. The core of the system is the BIBS station which has to be very exact and reliable.

INTEGRATE BIBS

The SAB system is a fully integrated reducing station which reduces HP air from the cylinder bank to LP suitable to be distributed via a hose connector to the hoses of the breathing masks. It can handle significantly higher flows than older BIBS on the market in order to supply breathing air for bigger crews.
The SAB system is equipped with slow opening valves rather than the problematic diaphragm piercing valves used in other systems. SAB’s latest design is an integrated BIBS station offering submarine designers even more advantages. Its design will accommodate larger crews and can integrate the Habetas / Hood inflation system connection, diver bottle filling connections and other supplies of breathing air on request.
